Yikes. It's been a long time, hasn't it?

Well I've been back from Lacoste since the end of May and I've been enjoying my summer. I don't have a proper job, but I've been working on some freelance design/art things. Hopefully I will finish these things soon, because I am pretty much the least disciplined person on the earth.

So. I just wanted to say hey, and let you know that I am still alive!

As I've grown as an artist, my preferences and likes and dislikes have gone though some intense changes. I used to live for realism. I only liked your work if it looked exactly like the reference. Absolute precision was key. Art to me was reproducing what you see exactly as it is. Now, this is a great skill and it's necessary for a solid foundation in art, but we have photographers for replicating what you see. The drawn and painted scenes should be much more than that. I've grown to love abstraction and non-representational art. It can be really beautiful when the color scheme and the lines and shapes make appealing compositions. Avant-garde, experimental, and innovative are my new standards. But I still hate Jackson Pollack. :)

I have mixed feelings about journals. Which is probably the reason I often have very short entries, or don't post for long intervals. In some ways "venting" makes things worse, and you should really just say "whatevah" and brush it off. BUT I do like to vent. And it does help sometimes. So that was pointless as per usual.

I REALLY DON'T WANT TO GO TO WORK. But at the same time I do because it's money! However, my boss ahs been a total asshole lately, and I don't know if I can stand it much longer. He's this "super riche" old southern man who, for some reason, hates me. Well, I do forget things and freak out under pressure situations, haha, but come ooon. I mean well. And I try mt best.... so. I just hate mean people.

In addition, my room mate has gone home for the weekend, so I am left by myself! There's a party on Friday, but I have to work super early the next morning... Maybe I'll go anyways. Gah. We'll see...

I've been watching a lot of interviews with Charlie Rose lately because he is amazing! I love how in-depth this interviews are, and the questions he asks. I started out looking for Wes Anderson interviews, because I find him fascinating, and ende up watching Conan O'Brien and Quentin Tarantino interviews. Interesting stuff.

Oh! I recently bought Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead, and Jaws. YAY! hahaha. There are so many other movies I'd love to buy... oh to not be in student loan debt right now.

They never fail to impress me. Radiohead is the best band I've ever heard, and I am convinced they are the best that I will ever hear. I have an undying love for Thom Yorke. Everything else I listen to is garbage in comparison. That is all.

I used to be a die-hard Stephen Colbert fan. I didn't care for Jon Stewart. I'd say he goes too far sometimes... He's not as funny. But lately I've been a big fan. He has a different sense of humor - obviously more straight forward, less parody/satire than Colbert - but he is quite funny! And I had to laugh when I saw this. His expression is priceless. And I love that style of painting. Whoever photoshopped/painted this is my new hero.

I got season one from the library, so don't spoil anything for me! Although the freaking website already spoiled a lot for me. All I wanted to know was how many seasons there were! How dare they.

So, my first impressions, well, second impressions since I've mulled over it a bit, are positive. It's very unique, and not exactly what I expected. I was told it was a show about a serial killer who kills serial killers. How could someone not have thought of this before? Well, I'm sure they have just in case you have an example you'd like to throw in my face, but at any rate it's a very interesting idea for a TV show. I expected Dexter to be a well-adjusted normal guy who just happens to kill serial killers because he's just that BAMF and he loves to save the innocent people that they are preying upon. I was way off.

Dexter is a lot more complex, and I am glad. He is a self-proclaimed sociopath with a sense of humor but no human emotions. He fakes it. He fakes it very well. And you sympathize with his adoptive father, who tried to save him from himself! Guuhhh. I recommend it. I won't go into the details because I hate it when things are spoiled.

In other news, I got a job at Toys 'R' Us, and I'm not sure how I feel about it. I start training tomorrow. Fun times.

Do you know what I hate?

I hate when girls are rewarded for being tomboys and guys are looked down upon for showing feminine qualities.

I could go on and on.

Sooo. I was stupid and deleted my InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop because I thought I had found better versions of them... But the better versions turned out not working, and now I am desperate for these programs. Can anyone help me out?

All throughout my life I've had these on and off periods where I just get stressed out for no reason. For example, I am sitting here at the computer and all of the sudden I feel really overwhelmed and full of anxiety. All I want to do right now is sleep. Whaaat is thiiiiiiiisssSSS???

#1 We drive around in death-traps everyday with minimal training.

#2 We are thrown out of high school and expected to know what we are supposed to do with the rest of our lives

#3 We spend millions of dollars on an education and then our economy goes to crap and we can't get student loans and who knows what the hell is going to happen

I thought I knew what I was supposed to do with my career. But I'm lacking confidence and creativity at the moment. So. Ad design... I hope.. but UGH. I wish I was swilling to take BIG RISKSSSSSS! And not just stay with what I'm comfortable with. Oh well. I give up. I'm just going to try my best and go from there.

If you try the best you can
The best you can is good enough
If you try the best you can
If you try the best you can
The best you can is good enough

I'd really like to help you, man

Watch this trailer because Michael Sheen is amazing.

I saw previews for the above before I saw Burn After Reading, which was bizarrely funny... in a good way?? It was certainly entertaining. I just kinda wish that every other word on the script wasn't "fuck." It takes away from the story a bit.

I also finally saw Donnie Darko. I KNOW!!!! I've wanted to see it for sooooo long. I liked it. I'm still confused, but I liked it a lot, actually. The feel/tone of the movie was just beautiful. And Jake Gyllenhaal is so freaking adorable.

Just thought you ought to know.
